</title><link>http://marconews.com/news/2008/may/09/manatee-middle-school-students-add-color-history-s/</link><description>For some students at Manatee Middle School in Naples, the monotony of daily classroom activities was broken up Thursday and Friday by a chance to leave a lasting legacy on their school. Under the guidance of renowned Marco muralist Stephen Muldoon, a select number of students got to jazz up their school cafeteria by painting the walls with a large mural inspired by Calusa Indian masks.

</title><link>http://marconews.com/news/2008/apr/20/colliers-legacy-80-years-later/</link><description>You might consider the big picture. Listening to reports of astronauts and space stations, today we think of South Florida as a single entity. A mere 80 years ago, within the span of a human lifetime, this same tableau would have rendered a vast expanse of wilderness, with a few dirt roads to local destinations and not much else.

</title><link>http://marconews.com/news/2008/apr/13/marcophile-marco-needs-major-league-monument/</link><description>Here is a Marco scenario that would accomplish good on so many levels. See what you think. First, some facts. Marco has hundreds, maybe thousands of veterans who’ve served us in uniform over the decades. We love our veterans. Next, Marco Island has hundreds, maybe thousands of dogs.

</title><link>http://marconews.com/news/2008/apr/06/best-turtle-season-here/</link><description>There are very few animals that are as beloved here in Florida as our sea turtle. They’re fascinating creatures and we go to great lengths to ensure they have successful nesting seasons every summer. If you’re enthusiastically anticipating their arrival on our beaches, set the mood with a talk by author Mary Alice Monroe at Rookery Bay’s Environmental Learning Center April 8.

</title><link>http://marconews.com/news/2008/mar/31/best-do-not-take-live-animals-beaches/</link><description>As residents and visitors to Marco Island, we have many opportunities to visit the rare and beautiful habitats that surround us. Availing ourselves of these resources comes with responsibilities, however, which means that no one should be taking live animals, especially shellfish, from the beach.

</title><link>http://marconews.com/news/2008/mar/30/marcophile-bright-future-hands-brave/</link><description>We often hear of wild, undisciplined, badly behaved children and wonder what’s wrong with kids today. But, every year at this time, we are reminded that there are more good kids than bad, more young people with promising futures than those whose prospects are in doubt.
