</title><link>http://marconews.com/news/2008/may/13/letter-editor-its-dogs-life/</link><description>Dog lovers of Marco Island unite! The City Council has proposed a change to the ordinance which prohibits walking leashed dogs in the public parks on Marco.

</title><link>http://marconews.com/news/2008/may/13/letter-editor-godzilla-junior/</link><description>The headlining article “Iguanas Gone Wild” published on Friday exhibited what I believe to be a commonly held misperception of wild (or now-wild) animal populations, especially here in Florida.

</title><link>http://marconews.com/news/2008/may/13/letter-editor-freeze-frame/</link><description>I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read what Marie Anne Barcomb said about getting rid of the Iguana population. Is this woman nuts? Why would you freeze any animal to death?

</title><link>http://marconews.com/news/2008/may/08/letter-editor-power-sun/</link><description>Karen Glaub’s letter to the editor today suggests alternative energy options for reducing the city’s electric bill. Solar energy, a major feature in South Florida (the Sunshine State), is a viable energy resource. While reducing risks on the political, environmental, and financial fronts, the quality of our lives is improved as well.

</title><link>http://marconews.com/news/2008/may/05/letter-editor-yes-dogs-parks/</link><description>Marco Island City Council Members, Marco Island residents and editors: The Humane Society Naples strongly encourages and supports municipal public dog parks and dog walks. Good for the Marco Island City Council for their recent vote to draft an ordinance allowing leashed dogs in public parks. We hope the ordinance passes unanimously.

</title><link>http://marconews.com/news/2008/may/13/mica-recycling-good-planet-and-your-pocket/</link><description>I recently visited the newly opened Marco Island Recycling Center. It seems strange to say, but what a beauty it is! The center is located at 990 Chalmers Drive at the corner of Chalmers and East Elkcam Circle, across the street from its previous location. I have to say that for a center that essentially collects recyclables, it is immaculate and quite attractive.

</title><link>http://marconews.com/news/2008/apr/28/mica-residents-beach-singer-jim-greeley-back/</link><description>It was about 6:30 p.m., more than an hour before sunset. I was out running errands. “Should I head home to throw a load of laundry in the washer or should I throw caution to the wind and head to Residents’ Beach an hour early? Oh, what the heck, live a little,” I said to myself, so I drove toward the beach!

</title><link>http://marconews.com/news/2008/apr/21/mica-help-you-head-north/</link><description>It’s hard to believe that another season is coming to a close. It seems we spend months preparing for “season” and before we know it, our part-time residents are packing their belongings and heading north.

</title><link>http://marconews.com/news/2008/apr/17/guest-commentary-south-seas-has-their-say-dock-ext/</link><description>I, as well as other owners at South Seas Condominiums, read your cover article regarding our approved dock extensions and the lawsuits filed by the Wolters. First, we were surprised that no one contacted us or our attorney for a comment or to obtain our position on the lawsuits before publishing the article.

</title><link>http://marconews.com/news/2008/may/01/editorial-time-after-time/</link><description>I’m no good at goodbyes. While it’s partly because my well-disguised social awkwardness tends to creep out at times like these, it is also for another reason. I believe that, no matter what, in some capacity, and somewhere down the line, we’ll see each other again. This is no different.

</title><link>http://marconews.com/news/2008/apr/17/editorial-human-rights-are-not-worth-fight/</link><description>Watching a video of Buddhist monks –– who are most often associated with peaceful ways of living – involved in a violent riot is to me a great irony as well as an obvious record of the tragedy of current human values. It saddens me deeply at the same time it awakens me from my lingering — although involuntary — indifference towards world happenings.

A mother had submitted a photo of her young son getting ready to go into the pool. He had two buck teeth, a little fro and was completely decked out from head to toe in colorful swimming gear.

</title><link>http://marconews.com/news/2008/mar/13/editorial-its-time-marco-had-dog-park/</link><description>We’re getting a new addition to our family! It has four legs and tail – a dog! My kids and I visited the Naples Humane Society in Naples on Saturday – just to look – and found a wonderful little pooch! It’s still in the works, but hopefully by this Saturday, she’ll be coming home with us.
