Y co-ed volleyball teams sharpen their skills
The YMCA Co-ed Volleyball League excitement mounts as the players progressively improve their team cohesiveness.
Monica Buddemeyer’s Bud #1 won both games over Lisa Meurgue’s Court Jesters, but not without some serious effort. Nina Lane led Bud #1 in saves, while Michael Buddemeyer and Bill Pagoni led the team in serving.
The Court Jesters, with Coach Bob Madonna having several good serving runs, kept them in the match. Let’s hear it for “volleyball moms,” Joan Madonna, Meurgue, and Monica Lopez, who played as tough as their Lely soccer daughters to keep the score tight. Bud #1 came out on top, 25 -20 and 25-18.
Dale Rod’s Spanky’s Spikers had to go to three games to take the win over Monica Buddemeyer’s Bud #2 team. Bud #2 pulled off an upset in the second game, 27-25, led by Toni Macchiarolo and Nancy Garousi, with their serves and Tom Garousi and Jim Jared kept the game alive with some fancy saves and determination.
Spanky’s came back with a vengeance in game three, winning 15-4, to keep its undefeated record. Newcomers Alicia Gonzales and Mara Vail led in the win.
Greg West’s Kinetico Water had the bye week.
The game to watch tonight will be the two undefeated teams, Spanky’s Spikers and Bud #1, at 7 p.m. at the YMCA Airnasium.
Both teams are 3-0, followed by the Court Jesters and Kinetico Water, 1-2 and Bud #2, 0-3.
