Lee MPO wants to settle disputes, avoid lawsuits

The regional agency making road-building decisions for Lee County won't give cities veto power over projects through their borders.
Members of the Metropolitan Planning Organization will work harder to communicate with advisory committees and settle disputes before they reach the lawsuit stage. The MPO, which is comprised of elected officials from the county and each city based on population, will continue to be the final word on such projects.
"This is messy," Bonita Springs Councilman and MPO member Ben Nelson said. "It's controversial. There's conflict. And I think that's good."
