Art League leaders Bill Morris and Christine Neal share their love of art with the Marco chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

The Marco Island Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) hosted Morris and Art League executive director Christine Neal at its November meeting at the Island Country Club.

Morris described his lack of artistic talent to make the point that you don’t need to be an artist to join the Art League or to enjoy its exhibits, lectures, tours, trips, parties, demonstrations and more than 100 classes for adults and children.

And Christine Neal wishes that the Art League gift shop weren’t such a well-kept secret. She said there are no trinkets from China. Instead, you’ll find one-of-a-kind gifts, unique and handcrafted items, jewelry, art supplies and more.

From its beginning in 1969, the Art League has grown to 400 members. Its focus goes far beyond painting and sculpture to include clay and stone, the performing arts, digital photography and, yes, even using nude models.

Neal said the art league promotes art appreciation and the concept that art is all around us; the chair you’re sitting in, the design of the building where you work, the architecture of your home, the clothes you wear, jewelry, landscaping – you get the idea.
