The Astros scored seven runs in the last inning, then held on to edge the Yankees, 12-11, in the Rookie Division of the Marco Island Baseball League.
In a Minor Division game, the Cubs downed the Indians, 15-3.
Home runs by the Yankees Joey Gillen, Cameron Jones, Howie Jordan and Zach West weren’t enough to slow down the Astros who trailed 6-5 going into the last inning.
No report was given on how the Astros scored their 12 runs.
Jones continued his perfect hitting streak, now at 10 straight hits. Hawkin Jenkins, Mike Scola and Jay Vanderjagt each had two hits for the Yankees.
James Steele broke a 2-2 tie with a grand slam home run in leading the Cubs to victory. Jonathan Irigoyen also homered for the Cubs and Cole Stretton caught three balls in the outfield.
No report was given on how the Indians got their runs.
Action resumes tonight with two undefeated teams, the Marlins playing the Cubs, at 6:30 p.m. on the field behind Tommie Barfield Elementary. On Saturday morning the Angels play the Braves and the Pirates battle the Red Sox, with both games at 8:30 a.m. at Winterberry Park. The Yankees play the White Sox at 8:30 a.m. at Tommie Barfield. The 9:45 a.m. games feature the Mets and Astros at Winterberry and the Indians and Dodgers at Tommie Barfield.
