The first thing you should know about Rachael Klein is that she’s persistent. She’s also mission minded.
For the last decade Klein has been on a tear to eradicate amblyopia, a developmental condition that impacts vision. If undetected, it can result in permanent blindness. But – and here’s the good news - if diagnosed in infancy (preferably) or early childhood it can be treated successfully.
To this end, Klein has sponsored countless numbers of free clinics to screen for this treatable malady.
Last Sunday afternoon, the weather smiled on her latest fundraiser, “Cruise for Sight,” aboard the Marco Island Princess.
With the sponsorship of Prevent Blindness Florida and Madison Eye Associates, 100 friends and fans joined Klein in support of her noble cause.
Islander Cindy Anderson of the Marco Island Historical Society joined in the festivities and marveled at Klein’s dedication and energy.
“At 87, she’s pretty terrific. She makes a real difference in our community,” Anderson said.
