Nest egg advice

Local financial adviser Gary Ozak is to host an educational seminar on “making sense of retirement,” 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., July 30, at Vandy’s/5 Brothers restaurant at the Marco Island Town Center.

In a release, the Edward Jones adviser points out that 77 percent of Americans aged between 50 to 65 have saved less than $37,000 for retirement.

At the same time, he says, quoting U.S. Census bureau statistics, 47 percent of the people in that age group will depend on personal retirement plans as their largest source of income.

Ozak will talk about formulating plans, reviewing current pre-retirement situations and recognizing the importance of seeking professional retirement planning guidance.

The free seminar has limited seating. Call Mary Jarstad at 642-0071.

Turning up the volume

With the real estate market now said to be at least on the rebound, a local company has provided tangible evidence of that.

EXIT Realty Florida recently announced that EXIT Charde Realty on Marco Island received top sales ratings in several categories for both May and June of 2008.

In May, the office was rated tops in sales volume per agent; third in total sales volume; and fourth in gross closed commissions.

In June, the office claimed the second spot in sales volume, second in sales volume per agent, and third in gross closed commissions.

In a release, broker/owner Joe Charde said a hard-working team of agents brought about the achievements.

The company is a franchise of EXIT Realty, which is home-based in Canada. The ratings are based on a total of 3,124 agents working out of a total of 183 Florida offices.

More for less

With the national economy not exactly buoyant, business strategies are changing accordingly, and radically.

With that in mind, local company Townsend Consulting has scheduled some productivity workshops to be held August 27 and 28 at the Hawthorn Suites in Naples.

Called Mission Control, the program is said to help reduce interruptions and distractions in the workplace, reduce the number of office meetings by 50 percent, and increase productivity as well as employee satisfaction.

Workshop costs are $795 for both days, which includes materials and software add-ins.

The Wednesday session runs 9 a.m. through 5 p.m. and the Thursday session is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The workshop has been hailed by global organizations such as Ford and Dell, and locally by the Lee Memorial Healthcare System as well as Arthrex Inc. and RWA Inc.

Register by calling 394-888, or by contacting the company at rich@tcg-coaching.com.

Great “scapes”

Marco’s latter-day immersion in the arts has prompted Cedar Bay Yacht Club to host an exhibition of works by local artists.

The theme is “scapes,” and the exhibition runs at the club through the end of September.

Feminine touch

Dentist Altinai Gorrity has joined the practice of Dr. Fred Eck in the Suntrust Bank building at 950 N. Collier Blvd., Suite 305.

Before joining Marco Dental Care, Dr. Gorrity practiced in New York City and Orange, New Jersey. She obtained her DDS degree in New York at the New York University College of Dentistry.

Her skills and services include cosmetics, reconstructive dentistry, Invisalign and traditional orthodontics for both children and adults.

She is a Marco Island resident and married mother of two young boys.

Troubled water over bridge

Marco’s much-discussed Jolley Bridge will once again be spotlighted — this time on July 30 at the monthly In The Round series sponsored by Orion Bank.

In the hot seat will be the county’s transportation administrator, Norman Feder, MPO director Phillip Tindall, FDOT Southwest-Florida area manager Johnny Limbaugh, and city councilor Bill Trotter.

Bridge issues include who originally paid for the structure, how sound it really is, whether a second span really is needed, and assorted aspects of tolling.

Reservations are required. The session is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. through about 8:30 p.m. Call 403-5169, or contact Keith Dameron at keith.dameron@orionbank.com.
