The Marco Island Charter Middle School campus has been busy this week with runners traversing the grounds outside and boys and girls inside learning the intricacies of basketball.
The first camp ends Friday, but a second chance begins on Monday, going through Thursday. More than 50 kids participated in the first week.
The running camp costs $65, while the basketball camp is $80.
Roger Raymond and daughter Jessica operate the running camps, from 7:30 to 9 a.m.
The boys basketball camp, operated by Roger Raymond and Chris Adams, runs from 9:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. each day.
Craig Fisher, the Charter School girls coach, operates the camp from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. He is assisted by sixth grade girls coach Alan Pernas.
Raymond said participants of the running camp learn about nutrition, the tempo of running a race and conditioning. In basketball, conditioning, offensive and defensive drills and playing in game conditions are taught.
