The third annual Fried Green Tomato Luncheon, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., June 20, will be held at the Immokalee Friendship House, for agencies, donors and friends to meet, greet, network, enjoy Immokalee cuisine and learn about Friendship House.
Every day, hundreds of people in Collier County are living on the streets. Down on their luck, they need a safe and nurturing environment and someone to lend a helping hand. The Immokalee Friendship House strives to help the less fortunate among us, providing shelter to more than 1,000 people and feeding more than 25,000 meals each year. A $10 donation is enough to provide 25 hot nutritious meals.
Each Immokalee Friendship House guest has their needs assessed and receives a shower and hot meals, including a bag lunch to take to work or while job prospecting. In the evening, clothes are washed, chores are done, and social services such as AA meetings, support groups and case management are available. Staff assists with job interviews and readiness, referrals, and finding affordable housing. 602 West Main Street, Immokalee. Information: 657-4090.
