Marco residents: While serving as a committee member at the last Rental Committee meeting on April 30, at City Hall, my truck was intentionally damaged.
I have been asking for ordinances for single-family residential neighborhoods that every other “resort” city has including Naples, Sanibel and Miami which are to increase rentals to 30 days and limit occupancy.
This is the second time in recent weeks where a Marco resident’s car has been damaged after voicing disagreements with city policies. This message should be loud and clear to Marco residents ... keep your mouth shut or a cowardly thug will try to silence you. There is now a pattern of retaliation against Marco residents and there should be an investigation by an outside agency regarding such despicable, corrupt acts.

I believe we should limit the investigation into this matter to 30 days.

Dear Mrs. Salvi: I think I speak for the majority of your neighbors and fellow citizens when I say that I am angry and outraged about the damage to your vehicle. But, if you were one of the vehicles parked in Dr. Guidry's lot, there is a possibility that your damage was caused for other reasons. And even if your car was not parked in the adjacent lot, you are giving too much credence and emotion to this issue. This always has been a non-issue to the majority of the Island. That is not to minimize the noise you experience from nearby rentals. There is no controversy and no anger on this issue. The only anger and frustration is that it was considered in the first place and a committee was formed. This will never pass Planning Commission and Council and everyone knows it. By the way, please ask yourself what the Committee came up with that will stop this from happening ?

Marco residents: What did happen to Karen Salvi’s truck was a despicable and a cowardly act. It is a possibility that someone that disagrees with, her did it. While it could be retaliation against her opinions as expressed while serving as a committee member of the Rental Advisory Committee it would premature to make that conclusion.
Karen Salvi did park her vehicle in a parking lot adjacent to the Marco Island City parking lot. The owner of that lot has posted signs in objection to people attending city meetings using his lot. There are no security cameras in that lot. As Karen Salvi states there was another car keying incident. There is no evidence connecting the two acts of vandalism. These acts, as bad and as upsetting as they are, are not necessarily aimed at certain individuals. They could be just random acts of vandalism. Certainly the acts were intentional. No reasoning for this act can yet be determined.
Two incidents do not make a pattern. With two dots you can only draw a straight line, not a picture.
I object to Karen Savi’s encouragement for people anywhere to cave into being silenced. I think it is important that every individual express his or her opinions in a proper manor.
And I do hope that the vandal(s) are caught so that the facts can be ascertained.

Why does Mr. Issler always start his posts with: "I think I speak for the majority of your neighbors and fellow citizens"? Rarely do I ever agree completly with anything he says and neither do my neighbors (I've actually asked them). Who elected Mr. Issler as Marco Island's spokesperson? This individual has serious ego issues. Why not be humble once in a while Mr. Issler and express only your own opinion? Don't try to make the entire island look like it's populated by nincompoops.
