The Marco Island Charter Middle School baseball team finished its season on a positive note, topping First Baptist Academy (FBA), 7-2 in the Southwest Conference Baseball League playoffs.
The Eagles rebounded from a first-game loss in the playoffs to Community School of Naples, 13-4, to finish the season at 5-4.
In its final win, all three eighth grade pitchers contributed to the victory. Patrick Doyle got the win, going three innings, followed by Luke Bergen for two innings and Kit Fowler closing the dolor in the final inning.
Fowler, Hayden Hanscom, Sean Stolliker and Matt Gerhardstein were credited with excellent defensive plays, along with Reno Landers and Marc Milk throwing out base runners.
In the loss to Community School, the Eagles rallied after being down 11-0, but had dug too deep a hole. Offensively, the Eagles tallied their runs on a Fowler triple and a Milk double.
Players departing the Charter School are Alex Jarrett, Joe Marinaro, Milk, Gerhardstein, Fowler, Doyle, Hanscom and Bergen. Seventh grader Reno Landers is moving.
Returning will be Kenny Moss, Stolliker and Cooper Fulcher.
A bright spot is that the junior varsity went undefeated and will give the varsity a lift next season. Eagles Manage Alex Galiana looks forward to having Greg Trzyna, Sean Lampos, Jeff Leona and Adam Hurdis among those stepping up.
