Junior Rookie tourney set

Marco Island Charter Middle School's Alex Barrett readies to slam return in a match earlier this season. Barrett won the Sportsmanship Award as the school's top tennis player on Tuesday. Players her age will be participating in the Junior Rookie Tennis Tournament at the city Racquet Center.

The city Parks & Recreation Department is sponsoring its first Junior Rookie Tennis Tournament at the Racquet Center on June 7 and 8.
The tourney is for players who want to enter competitive play and have not acquired any USTA Junior ranking points.
Singles divisions will be girls and boys 10-and-under, 12-and-under and 14-and-under. Each participant is guaranteed two matches. Trophies will be awarded in each division. Each participant will receive T-shirts, water and other refreshments.
Entry fee is $28. To enter, or for more information, call the Racquet Center, 394-5454. Registration can also be done on-line at tennislink.usta.com Tournament ID is 153702508.
