The Art League Marco Island’s Center for The Arts and the City of Marco Island Parks and Recreation Department have announced the return of Artists Visiting Kids! Program, designed to encourage students to “learn by doing”, by interpreting their environment in different ways and creating a work of art in the style of the selected visiting artist.
This year’s grant recipient, Jennifer Marquis-Muradaz, was selected for the 2008 program by the Marco Island Director of Parks and Recreation, Dana Souza, and the Art League Marco Island’s Center for The Arts, Executive Director, Christine Neal.
Marquis-Muradaz is an artist, film producer and a mom.
Participants of the Artist Visiting Kids! Program will be given an understanding of the basic technical and visual art of filmmaking. They will have an opportunity to write and create their own short video documentary/ PSA (public service announcement) for public exhibition.
Students will participate in a week long, hands on series of classes for four hours each day, resulting in the creation of a manageable, but polished three to four minute film that illustrates the concept learned and focuses on an issue or story chosen, written, performed, directed and shot by the kids themselves.
Marco Island residents and visitors will then be able to attend the film screening of the work at the Marco Island Center for the Arts.
Marquis-Muradaz just returned from Europe, where she produced eight films. She has extensive experience as a teacher and community youth worker. She graduated from the New York University, Tisch School of the Arts in New York with a BFA, and the University of Southern California, School of Cinematic Arts with an MFA IN Motion Pictures Producing. From 2005 to 2008 Marquis-Muradaz was a film producer for the Educational Shakespeare Co., in Belfast, Ireland where she produced eight digital video films.
This program is funded by the City of Marco Island in a continued effort to stimulate public awareness and appreciation of the vitality and importance of visual arts, beginning with the art of its youth. The grant funds awarded to Muradaz is $4,500.
The Artist Visiting Kids! Program is free to the participants of the workshop.
