Youth, experience helps Eagles golf team
This year’s Marco Island Charter Middle School golf team had the benefit of youth and experience.
The four returnees were Michael Mitchusson, Brandon Black, Alexander Robau, and Clayton Halunen.
“All of these fine young golfers, all in seventh grade, showed a lot of improvement over last year’s scoring ability,” coach Joe Jarrett said.
Ably assisting were seventh graders Brighten Summers and Connor Bowden and sixth graders Aidan Brennan and Adam Hurdis.
The Eagles benefited by playing on some of the finest courses in Collier County, including Hammock Bay, Bonita Bay East, Naples Beach Club, Vineyards, Eagle Creek, Hibiscus, Eagle Lakes, Golden Gate, and the prestigious Country Clubs of Naples National and Old Collier.
“I want to offer a special thanks to Fiddler Creek’s Rookery Country Club for allowing us to use the course as our practice and match facility this season,” Jarrett said.
Jarrett said that Michael Mitchusson showed a lot of improvement over the last year by shaving nearly 15 strokes off his game and Brandon Black posted his personal best of 49 this season. Newcomer Hurdis also showed his potential by posting a personal best of 50.
The good news is that everyone returns for next season.
