Wow! What a great time everyone had at the Taste of Marco held last Sunday at the Esplanade. Myles Loud’s show was fantastic at the main stage and D.J. Tony D, of Jukebox Productions, entertained with his library of classic oldies. Full story »

What an exciting time at the Marco Island Family YMCA! This week started off with the fourth round of the “Shark of the Park” competition. More than 50 participants skated for the top prize. The winner, for the third time in as many events, was Connor Bowden. Full story »

Connor Bowden went boneless in topping the Marco Island YMCA Skate Board competition on Sunday. Bowden won his third straight Shark of the Park title before some 300 cheering competitors, parents and fans. Even top skateboard pro Shawn Frick stopped by to catch Bowden’s and other competitor’s routines. Boneless is a skateboard move which gained Bowden key points. Full story »

Another week goes by, too fast, too quick. The Marco Island Family of YMCA members are getting smaller every day as folks head back home until next fall. Now it’s time to prepare for Summer Camp and all the activities that will be scheduled in conjunction with the camp. Full story »

I have been kept busy this week with the layout of the May issue of the “Eye on the Y” newsletter. This newsletter is delivered with the Marco Eagle each month on the last Friday of the month. My eyes have seen the glory of the swimming of the ducks — I have seen the 13th running of Miss Dottie’s Duck Derby and it was great! The ducks were patiently awaiting their turn to race down their pool lane and emerge victorious, the crowd cheered energetically for their favorites which was kind of hard to do as the ducks all looked alike. More than 45 kids, many from out of state, took advantage of their Easter break to participate in the March Madness Hoop Shoot Competition, sponsored by the city Parks and Recreation Department on Saturday. Full story »

My sides still hurt, my jaw muscles ache, my knees are weak and my feet hurt. These are all symptoms of uproarious laughter and running around greeting folks. All of us who attended Stan’s Roast last Thursday night at the Marriott Resort and Spa are suffering from this malady. Full story »
