Description: Located in the island community of Marco Island, Florida, St. Mark’s is a parish of the Diocese of Southwest Florida. Parish membership and activities reflect the somewhat unique demographics of the island. That is, a dynamic and growing residential, retirement, and vacation community composed primarily of middle-aged and older people. However, both in the parish and in the city there is a vigorous group of young families and singles. Church attendance does have a large seasonal variation due to the influx of winter residents and tourists with the peak months being January through March. Many of these people participate significantly in the activities of the parish and contribute to its resources even though they are not officially members of the church. St. Mark’s held its first service in January 1967 and has undergone several expansions and remodeling since then. The most significant of these was a major physical enlargement and renovation in the mid 1990's, resulting in a new and enlarged church, a new bell tower and steeple, a new parish hall building, a new office building. Consequently, St. Mark’s has the physical resources needed to pursue its mission in a growing community. Parish life at St. Mark's is centered around participation in the worship services of the church. Worship follows the traditional form of the Episcopal Church and the Anglican heritage with emphasis placed on the reverent and tasteful performance of all elements of the liturgy. As the only Episcopal Church on Marco Island, the people of St. Mark’s Church feel a special responsibility to live up to the basic tenets of the Anglican belief, to bring all within reach of the church into unity with God and each other in Christ, and to be the people of God in the Anglican Communion in this resort community.
